The Reggio Academy's mission is to develop kind, confident children who discover a love for learning through a supportive community and intentional environment. Our Reggio Inspired program treats children as active collaborators in their education. Their curriculum is inspired by their own interests, questions, and theories of the world around them. We believe their journey starts with a connection within the community, building a foundation of trust. With that trust, children feel safe exploring and taking risks in their learning experience. Children are encouraged to get messy, explore art, jump in puddles, and express themselves. Below is information on the different values within our program.

Reggio Emilia Approach
The Reggio Emilia Approach first begins with the image of the child. Children are viewed as strong, capable, competent beings with endless potential. The Reggio Emilia Approach has seven guiding principles that differentiate itself from other child-centered approaches: Image of the child, collaborations, The Hundred Languages of a Child, environment as the third teacher, pedagogical documentation and parents as partners in education.

The Whole Child
Our goal at The Reggio Academy is to create well rounded children that accomplish much more than academic success. We do this by implementing The Whole Child Approach which are five principles that are based around Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: health, safety, engage, support and challenge. By using this approach educators are able to help children reach their fullest potential and support their families in raising confident, well-rounded, curious, and emotionally intelligent children

Outdoor Play
The benefits of outdoor play are endless and is highly valued at The Reggio Academy. We are nature enthusiasts and encourage children to climb trees, jump in puddles and emerge all five senses in nature play. When playing outside, children are given more opportunity to take appropriate risk in their play (carry heavy objects, climb trees, get muddy in the mud kitchen..etc) in comparison to playing indoors…

Atelier
Although the Reggio-inspired pedagogy hails from Italy, the Italians chose the word “atelier” which means art studio or workshop in French. The Reggio adaptation of “atelier” is an inspiring studio made up of a variety of materials, mediums and tools that allow students to further their inquiries, explore new ideas, and express themselves. This space also enacts the philosophy of “The Hundred Languages of Children” that Loris Malaguzzi created. The educator who runs the Atelier is called the Atelierista. They are very involved within the classroom and observe children in order to help facilitate art based projects in the Atelier. The atelier is an extension of the classroom and is an integral part of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy
